I thought that Joseph had lost confidence in Sidney and wanted to release him as his counselor but Hyrum persuaded him not to? Was the relationship at a point where Joseph felt he could trust Sidney enough to be his VP running mate? Interesting choice of a running mate, I would have thought another member of the Twelve (Parley P. Pratt, Orson Hyde, Heber C.
