So what was the relationship like between Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon in May 1844? I thought that Joseph had lost confidence in Sidney and wanted to release him as his counselor but Hyrum persuaded him not to? Was the relationship at a point where Joseph felt he could trust Sidney enough to be his VP running mate? Interesting choice of a running mate, I would have thought another member of the Twelve (Parley P. Pratt, Orson Hyde, Heber C. Kimball, or Brigham Young) would have been a more competent choice than Sidney would have been.
